Job Overview
Location: Burlington, Ontario
Structure: One-story bungalow with stucco and stone exterior and a small front porch
Problem: Exterior rat activity reported around the property
Service: Rat control and monitoring
Visits: 2
Summary
Our team responded to reports of rat activity occurring outdoors around a residential bungalow. A full interior and exterior inspection confirmed exterior activity without evidence of building entry. Licensed rodent control measures were implemented to reduce the outdoor population while preventing interior wall mortality. Ongoing exterior treatment was continued the following year to maintain population control.
Background / Property Context
The property is a one-story bungalow finished with stucco and stone, including a front porch and a large rear deck. Exterior features such as decks, vents, and foundation transitions can create sheltered conditions that attract rodents traveling along the perimeter.
Customer Concern
The homeowner reported seeing rats outdoors and was concerned about potential entry into the home.
Inspection & Findings
During the initial visit, our technician conducted a full interior and exterior inspection. Exterior rat activity was confirmed around the structure and yard. No active entry points into the building envelope were identified at the time of inspection, including behind the rear deck and along visible foundation and wall transitions.
Interior inspection identified areas suitable for preventative trapping but no confirmed interior nesting or entry damage.
Cause Analysis
Exterior rat activity was likely supported by environmental conditions around the property, including ground-level cover and structural features that provide shelter along the foundation. While no entry points were found, exterior populations can persist without exclusion if food sources and harborage remain available nearby.
Treatment / Removal
All rodent control work was performed by a licensed exterminator in accordance with Ontario Ministry of the Environment guidelines.
- Large, weighted, tamper-resistant bait stations containing commercial-grade rodenticide were placed around the exterior to target the outdoor population.
- Commercial-grade snap traps were installed inside the home in identified high-activity areas as a preventative measure, specifically to avoid rodents dying within wall voids.
Exclusion & Repairs
An exclusion assessment was completed during the first visit. A quote was provided for sealing ten weep vents using stainless steel vented inserts and securing two wall vents with galvanized steel covers. No exclusion work was completed during the initial service period.
Outcome & Confirmation
Exterior rat control continued into the following year, with ongoing exterior treatments maintained by the homeowner to further reduce rodent activity on the property. No interior entry or infestation was reported following treatment.
Technician Notes
Shaohua completed both the inspection and treatment, confirming exterior rat activity without identifiable entry points. Photo documentation shows wall vent locations and a small masonry gap consistent with areas monitored during inspection. No interior access points were observed at the time of service.
