Raccoon Removal From Roof Vent – Burlington

Job Overview

Location: Burlington, Ontario
Structure: Detached raised bungalow with attached garage
Problem: Nocturnal wildlife activity in attic consistent with raccoon presence
Service: Raccoon removal and roof vent exclusion
Visits: Two

Summary

We were contacted regarding nighttime noise and activity originating from the attic of a raised bungalow in Burlington. Our team completed a full roof-level inspection, identified an active raccoon entry point at a roof vent, and carried out a humane exclusion process. Follow-up confirmed successful removal and secure sealing of all treated areas with no further activity reported.

Background / Property Context

The property is a detached raised bungalow with an attached garage and multiple roof penetrations, including plastic roof vents and plumbing vents. Mature trees were present near the roofline, providing easy access points for climbing wildlife.

Customer Concern

The homeowner reported repeated nighttime noise coming from the attic, raising concerns about raccoon activity and potential damage to the roof or insulation.

Inspection & Findings

During the initial visit, our technician conducted a full exterior roof inspection. An active raccoon entry point was identified at a circular roof vent that showed signs of disturbance. Additional roof penetrations were assessed due to the likelihood of secondary access points.

Cause Analysis

Raccoons commonly target roof vents due to their thin materials and direct access into attic spaces. Elevated rooflines combined with nearby tree cover increase the likelihood of roof access. Late-stage baby season can also result in repeated attic use as adult raccoons return to den sites.

Treatment / Removal

A humane, non-lethal exclusion process was implemented. A one-way door was installed over the primary roof vent entry point to allow the adult raccoon to exit without re-entry. Due to the timing within late-stage raccoon baby season, an additional one-way door designed for juveniles was also installed. This ensured all animals could safely vacate the attic.

Exclusion & Repairs

To prevent future entry:

  • Two plumbing vents were sealed using galvanized steel mesh
  • Six plastic roof vents were reinforced with galvanized steel vent cages
  • After confirmation of no further activity, all one-way doors were removed and the primary entry point was permanently sealed

All materials were secured in a manner suitable for roof-level exposure.

Outcome & Confirmation

At the follow-up visit, the homeowner reported no further noise or wildlife activity. Our team confirmed the attic remained inactive, removed the temporary exclusion devices, and reinspected all exclusion work. No additional wildlife issues were observed following completion.

Technician Notes

The work was completed over two visits by technician Andrew. Roof access and installation were carried out safely despite seasonal conditions. Late-stage baby season was accounted for in the exclusion strategy, and all treated vents were reinforced to reduce the risk of recurrence.
