Raccoon Removal from Attic via Roof Vent – Burlington

Job Overview

Location: Burlington, Ontario
Structure: Large bungalow with raised basement and detached shed
Problem: Nocturnal attic activity consistent with raccoon presence
Service: Raccoon removal
Visits: 2

Summary

We responded to a report of nighttime attic noise at a residential bungalow in Burlington. Our team identified an open roof vent as the primary access point and completed a two-visit, humane raccoon removal and exclusion. Activity ceased following installation of a one-way door, and the roof vent was permanently secured on the return visit.

Background / Property Context

The property is a large bungalow with a raised basement. Roofline access points, including vents, were accessible from the exterior and required inspection due to the reported attic activity.

Customer Concern

The homeowner reported ongoing noise in the attic during nighttime hours, raising concerns about wildlife presence and potential damage to insulation and roof components.

Inspection & Findings

During the initial inspection, we accessed the attic to check for signs of raccoon occupancy and the presence of young. No juveniles were observed. Light penetration was visible through an opening at a roof vent, indicating an active entry point. Disturbed attic insulation was also observed near the vent opening, consistent with raccoon movement.

Cause Analysis

Raccoons commonly access attics through roof vents when screening or covers are compromised. Elevated roof features and quiet attic spaces provide shelter, particularly during spring activity periods. The open vent allowed repeated access without resistance.

Treatment / Removal

A one-way door was installed over the affected roof vent to allow the raccoon to exit without re-entry. This approach ensured humane, non-lethal removal while maintaining attic ventilation during the exclusion period. The work was completed without weather-related limitations.

Exclusion & Repairs

On the follow-up visit, with no further activity reported, the one-way door was removed. The roof vent was then secured with a fitted galvanized steel cage designed to prevent future wildlife entry while preserving airflow.

Outcome & Confirmation

Following installation of the one-way door, the homeowner reported no additional attic noise. After permanent exclusion was completed, we confirmed the repair was secure and that no further wildlife activity was present.

Technician Notes

The work was completed by Andrew over two visits. Initial inspection confirmed an active roof vent entry point with no dependent young present. Final exclusion was completed after activity ceased, and the installation was inspected to ensure long-term protection.
