Raccoon Attic Entry Sealed at Soffit Intersections — Burlington

Job Overview

Location: Burlington, Ontario
Structure: Detached two-storey house on an uneven lot
Problem: Nocturnal attic noises consistent with raccoon activity
Service: Raccoon removal and full exterior exclusion
Visits: 3

Summary

Our team completed a multi-visit raccoon removal and exclusion service after attic activity was reported at night. Multiple soffit intersection entry points were identified and addressed. One-way doors were used to allow animals to exit safely, followed by permanent sealing and inspection confirming no further activity.

Background / Property Context

The property is a detached two-storey home with rooflines and soffit intersections made more accessible by the uneven grade. These conditions can create repeated pressure points along roof-to-soffit transitions if not fully sealed.

Customer Concern

The homeowner reported ongoing sounds in the attic during nighttime hours, raising concern about raccoon presence and potential damage.

Inspection & Findings

During the initial exterior roof inspection, our technician identified an active entry point at a soffit intersection—one of the most common access areas for raccoons. Follow-up inspection later revealed a second soffit intersection on the opposite side of the roof accessing the same attic space. Additional probing showed attempted entry along adjacent soffit sections.

Cause Analysis

Soffit intersections and roofline transitions can loosen over time due to weathering and building movement. Elevated roof access and multiple intersecting angles provided raccoons with leverage points to widen existing gaps. Once an attic space is accessed, repeated attempts often occur at nearby intersections.

Treatment / Removal

A humane, non-lethal approach was used. One-way doors were installed at identified entry points to allow raccoons to exit without re-entry. Given the timing near the end of raccoon baby season, no interior attic inspection was required. All work was completed externally using working-at-heights safe practices.

Exclusion & Repairs

After continued activity was reported, additional exclusion work was completed. A second soffit intersection was sealed, along with a total of seven roof-to-soffit intersections. Approximately two additional feet of soffit area showing attempted entry was reinforced. Galvanized steel mesh and flashing were securely fastened to prevent future access while maintaining proper ventilation.

Outcome & Confirmation

On the final visit, the homeowner reported no further activity. All one-way doors were removed, sealed, and the full exclusion system was inspected. No additional wildlife activity has been reported since completion.

Technician Notes

The initial inspection and exclusion work were completed by Richard. A follow-up inspection and expanded sealing were completed on a return visit by Bailey after additional activity was reported. Final confirmation showed the attic space remained inactive following full exclusion.
