Job Overview
Location: Burlington, Ontario
Structure: Two-story detached house
Problem: Interior mouse activity, including scratching sounds in walls and droppings
Service: Mouse control and exterior exclusion
Visits: 6 visits
Summary
We addressed an ongoing mouse issue at a detached residential property in Burlington through a combination of licensed rodent control and targeted exterior exclusion. The service was completed over multiple visits between January and March and concluded with confirmation that interior activity had stopped and all completed exclusion work remained intact.
Background / Property Context
The home is a two-story detached structure with finished interior spaces and multiple exterior wall penetrations, including utility lines and wall vents. These features, combined with ground-level access points, created potential entry opportunities for mice.
Customer Concern
The homeowner reported hearing scratching sounds inside the walls and finding mouse droppings indoors, indicating active rodent presence within the structure.
Inspection & Findings
During the initial inspection, our team identified signs of mouse activity inside the home and several exterior vulnerabilities. These included unprotected wall vents and a utility line penetration with visible gaps. Activity was consistent with mice entering from the exterior and nesting within wall voids.
Cause Analysis
Mouse activity was likely driven by small exterior openings that allowed access into wall cavities. Utility penetrations and plastic wall vents without protective screening can be exploited by mice, particularly during colder months when shelter-seeking behavior increases. Once inside, wall voids provide warmth and concealment.
Treatment / Removal
Mouse control was performed by a licensed exterminator in accordance with Ontario Ministry of the Environment guidelines. Tamper-resistant bait stations containing commercial-grade rodenticide were placed in areas of high activity inside and outside the home. Additional exterior stations were installed to intercept mice before entry. Stations were monitored and rebaited during follow-up visits to ensure continued effectiveness.
Exclusion & Repairs
After the homeowner approved the recommended work, exclusion was completed on a subsequent visit. This included:
- Sealing three accessible plastic wall vents with galvanized steel vent cages
- Sealing one utility line penetration using galvanized steel mesh and exterior-grade silicone
All materials were selected for durability and resistance to rodent gnawing.
Outcome & Confirmation
During the final visit, no further interior mouse activity was reported. All bait stations and exclusion points were inspected and found to be intact. The homeowner confirmed that scratching noises and droppings had ceased, and the service was considered resolved.
Technician Notes
The work was completed over six visits with no weather-related limitations. Technician Shaohua conducted the initial inspection, oversaw treatment placement, and verified the integrity of the completed exclusion during the final follow-up.
